Our Story: A History of Exceeding Expectations

Abbey Design + Remodel’s journey began with a vision. In 1989, Shiva and Ali Cheloei Sr. established our first retail flooring store in Sterling, VA, under the name ‘US Carpet & Rug’. With a focus on offering a wide range of flooring solutions including carpet, tile, laminate, and hardwood, our foundation was set on the principles of quality, variety, and customer satisfaction.

In 1994, our evolution continued as we became a franchisee of Abbey Carpet & Floor, leveraging the buying power of over 800 stores nationwide. This transition allowed us to offer renowned brand names at competitive prices, further enhancing our service to the community.

The year 2001 marked a significant milestone as we expanded our offerings to include home design and cabinetry, transforming Abbey into a comprehensive ‘one-stop-shop’ for all home remodeling needs. This expansion led to a rebranding to ‘Abbey Design Center’.

Our commitment to excellence and customer-focused approach was further solidified in 2004 with the construction of our new 11,000 sq. foot flagship showroom in Sterling. This space, showcasing the latest in kitchen and bathroom remodeling, along with our established flooring options, became a testament to our growth and dedication.

Over the years, Abbey has not only expanded its physical presence but also its family. In 2013, Shiva’s son, Ali Jr., joined the company as Vice President, bringing new energy and perspective. By 2018, Abbey Design Center and Abbey Commercial Flooring moved their headquarters to Reston, VA, streamlining operations and services. Ali Jr. was promoted to President, marking a new era in our history.

2019 saw another family addition, with Amir Cheloei, Shiva’s other son, joining as Executive Vice President. Together, the next generation of the Cheloei family is set to carry forward the legacy of Abbey Design + Remodel with the same grit and ambition as their predecessors.
