Everybody loves a good kitchen transformation, but what does it take to get from before to after? In our blog series, ANATOMY OF AN ABBEY KITCHEN, we take the confusion out of it and break it down for you!
This kitchen originally had very poor functionality and flow. The client dreamed of a kitchen that had more storage capabilities while also allowing for more people to be able to work and cook in the space at once. Not only did we meet all of the clients expectations for a comfortable space with ample storage, but we were able to create multiple seating areas and opened up the space to more natural lighting, transforming this clunky, outdated kitchen into the perfect gathering place for all family members — and their guests!

SCOPE OF WORK: The most transformational aspect of the project in terms of functionality and flow was how Abbey successfully converted the full wall between kitchen and family room to a 1/2 wall. We also removed the peninsula and the island and converted it to a one tier island with bar seating. We also relocated the gas range and installed duct work for new hood ventilation. Though we kept the existing hardwood floors, we patched them up as needed, re-sanded them and refinished them for a refreshed look and feel. We realigned the existing recessed lights and added additional lighting for more brightness. For extra storage, we built a walk-in pantry closet so the counter space could be clear at all times. The fresh coat of paint was the finishing touch to this total kitchen transformation bringing in even more brightness and light!
CABINETS: Our cabinetry is always American-made for the best quality. For this project, we used Koch cabinets in Fairway with a Shaker Edge for the classic elegance our clients wanted. The oyster white is a beautiful contrast with the charcoal blue color cabinet finish on the island for a touch of country charm.
FIXTURES: Polished chrome was used as the finish on all the fixtures to give the kitchen a more modern appearance with high functionality.
COUNTERTOPS: Quartz is a beautiful choice for your kitchen countertops. It’s durable, non-porous, non-toxic and resists stains while maintaining the luxurious look and feel of marble. We used the classic Calacatta Lago style by MSI Quartz to create a timeless appeal.
